Herand is a village in the district of Ullensvang on the Folgefonn peninsula. During winter the population is approximate 200 people, while the the summer is more busy with people coming to stay in holiday cabins in the area in addition to tourists. The nature makes a deep impression on everybody coming here, with beautiful views of islets, the fjord and the mountains. The village is protected by the surrounding hills against much of the wind and rain that usually comes from the southwest. The summer temperature is often hovering around 20 degrees Celsius, and the winter temperature more around zero.

The village has received several awards from the government including the national level for our work of maintaining our landscape, and the many clubs and voluntary groups in the village is a sign of a thriving social life. The bigger village of Jondal with more shops and services is located 12 kilometers to the south along the shore line, and the district center of Odda with several resturants and many shops is about 50 kilometers away. One of the important routes between Bergen and Oslo goes through Jondal and Odda, with several daily bus connections along the route. Both Bergen and Oslo have international airports with convenient and affordable connections to major cities in Europe.

Many trails (both marked and unmarked) in the hills surrounding Herand invite you to both easy walks and more strenous hikes. In season you can even pick lots of berries and mushrooms, or do some fishing in the fjord. You can do skiing in the winter - and even in summer you can go the Fonna Glacier Ski Resort, hire equipment and practice your downhill ski skills. And have a swim in the fjord afterwards. In the summer you can also hire kayaks if you rather prefer the sea.
